Groundwater is one of the main agents in the formation of natural cavities. Therefore, hydrogeochemical studies contribute to a better understanding of speleogenesis. Karst in siliciclastic and quartzitic rocks have peculiarities regarding their formation, which differ from karst in carbonate rocks, where the dissolution of carbonate is the main forming agent. The Parque Estadual de Ibitipoca (PEIB) is a speleological district with a high number of caves in siliciclastic rocks registered in a relatively small area (1,488 ha). This work analyses, during a hydrological cycle, the hydrogeochemical behavior of groundwater in cave systems in the southwest sector of the PEIB, a region that encompasses 4 caves, namely Martimiano II (the largest quartzite cave in the country), Bromélias, Manequinho and Casas. The main objective is to understand the rock-water interaction and its role in the development of the largest quartzite cave systems in the country. For this, during a drought and rain campaign, methods of physical-chemical analysis (in situ), geochemical analysis of major, minor and trace elements (ICP-MS and ICP-OES) and hydrogeochemical modeling and graphical relationships for interpretation were applied. of the data. It was found the existence of three distinct water and hydrochemical systems, the main one being the Bromélias-Martimiano II System with more than 7.5 km of underground conduits. The main hydrogeochemical processes observed in the systems were the dissolution of quartz and feldspars with formation of kaolinite. These processes are quite active and contribute to the beginning of speleogenesis in the southwest sector of the PEIB, mainly in the sanding phases and in the leaching of rock grains forming proto-conduites (piping).
